Simple Battery Timer

August 14th, 2005

Simple Battery Timer is a little program I wrote sometime during the first quarter of this year (2005). It is basically a utility for timing your laptop’s battery life. All it really does is show you what percentage of the battery was drained over what period of time. It shows you a few more battery metrics, but nothing extraordinary. Also it won’t start timing if your laptop is plugged in and it will stop timing automatically when you plug your laptop in.

This GUI App was written in C#/Window Forms. It also uses a Win32 API dll to call functions that let me determine things like, whether or not the laptop is plugged in, and the current battery life.

I haven’t made this available to the public until now. Mostly because I had plans for expanding the program to have more features, like logging your times and keeping statisics about your laptops battery performance.
I don’t know when these features will be added so I wanted to make available what I do have done.

More:

I have been into laptops for a while now and one of the things I look for in a good laptop is long battery life.
My laptop (The Fujitsu B3010D) would get about 4 hours (average) of battery life when I bought it December 2003. Now it gets about 2-3 hours (though I haven’t checked recently).
